Pat Waughtal
Artist
I love color, light and the beauty of nature. For me, the creation of art is exciting and therapeutic.
I am a native Houstonian and began my art studies at Glassell School of Art in the late 60's. I then studied acrylic painting with Lamar Briggs for 2 years. In the early years, I showed my work at Bell Gallery and with a group called the Sunshine Artists. In the 1980's, I switched my medium to watercolor and was fortunate to study with Barbara Jeffrey Clay for several years.
My painting career was interrupted when I decided to pursue another goal. I completed my undergraduate degree and then received a Masters in Occupational Therapy. I retired in 2005 after working in healthcare for 7 years.
Since retiring, I have resumed my art career and am enjoying every minute of it. I have studied landscape painting with Steve Parker and have explored collage, watercolor and mixed media with Mary Wilbanks, Polly Hammett and Sylvia Morgan. I have also studied figure and portrait painting with Diane Brahm. I usually paint from my own photographs, many of which I have taken on travels around the United States.
